AUTHENTIC YOGA STUDIO’S HISTORY
THE STORY BEHIND AUTHENTIC YOGA STUDIO
Built on Connection. Rooted in Community. Inspired by Real Life.
Authentic Yoga Studio was founded on a simple belief: yoga is for everyone, and you don’t have to be perfect to begin. You just have to show up.
What started as one person’s journey to find strength, balance, and a little breathing room during some of life’s hardest moments has grown into a welcoming yoga community serving Boise, Meridian, and Eagle, Idaho.
We offer a variety of heated yoga classes, strength and stability practices, restorative yoga, and opportunities to explore movement in ways that work for YOU.
But what makes Authentic Yoga special has never been just the classes. It’s the people, the connections, the teachers, and the community we’ve built together.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
A Note from Our Founder, Amanda Mendez
My journey into yoga wasn’t exactly graceful.
In fact, the first time I walked into a hot yoga studio, I got so nervous that I made an excuse and left before class even started. Didn’t even make it inside the studio room.
It took me months to find the courage to walk back through those same doors. When I finally did, I showed up with the wrong mat, no idea what I was doing, and a whole lot of nerves.
That first class was hot, challenging, uncomfortable, and completely unlike anything I’d experienced. I struggled…A LOT, I questioned myself, kind of wanted to cry or scream, and I probably spent half the class wondering what I’d gotten myself into. And why no one else looked like they were having the same class I was.
But something happened in that room. I walked out exhausted, sweaty, and feeling something I hadn’t felt in a very long time. I felt like I had “done something.”
I felt a little bit more like myself.
At the time, I thought I was simply looking for a workout. What I didn’t realize was how much I needed an opportunity to take care of ME, or even start to see ME again.
At this point my life was incredibly heavy. I was the primary caregiver for my mom as she battled terminal metastatic breast cancer, while also navigating a very difficult home life, one that included drug abuse, and the responsibilities of caring for my family, while trying to navigate through the hardships. The ones you don’t tell many others about.
Like so many people, I had become really good at showing up for everyone else while putting myself somewhere at the bottom of the list. Yoga became a place where I could step away from all of that, even if only for an hour. A place to breathe, move, challenge myself, and begin reconnecting with the person I was underneath everything life had thrown my way.
When my mom passed away in February 2014, my practice became even more important.
I kept showing up.
Over time, I realized that what I was finding through yoga was something I had to share with others.
Not because yoga made life perfect. It certainly didn’t.
But because it gave me tools to navigate life differently, it gave me my confidence back doing hard stuff, it showed me my strength again, and I knew I couldn’t be the only person who needed that. I knew I wasn’t the only person trying to navigate hard times.
FROM STUDENT TO TEACHER TO STUDIO OWNER, TRAINER, & RETREAT LEADER.
In February 2015, I began teaching yoga, and what started as a personal practice quickly became my passion and truly my purpose.
I continued to study, train, and explore different styles of yoga, working with students from all walks of life, beginners, experienced practitioners, and people simply looking for a place to feel better in their bodies. To finding a passion of working with more specific communities of first responders, military, and training individuals, teams and athletes to work on specific goals on a much deeper level.
My education and experiences, including training with Baron Baptiste, helped shape how I approach teaching. But just as importantly, the many of thousands of hours I’ve spent teaching, learning from students, and navigating real life have shaped my belief that there is no single way yoga should look or feel.
The more I taught, the more I understood that what mattered most wasn’t simply the postures or the physical practice.
It was how people felt when they walked through the doors, what they discovered about themselves, and the connections they made along the way.
In September 2018, I took a leap of faith and opened the first Authentic Yoga Studio in Meridian, Idaho.
I wanted to create a place where people could challenge themselves, feel supported, and be part of something genuine. A studio where you didn’t need to look a certain way, or be at a certain level of practice, have a certain level of flexibility, or know anything about yoga to belong. I want you to be able to create real life changes for yourself.
And that vision became Authentic Yoga.
MORE THAN ONE STYLE. ONE AUTHENTIC COMMUNITY.
Since opening in 2018, Authentic Yoga has grown into a community with studio locations in Meridian, Boise, and Eagle.
Our classes have evolved along with us, bringing together a variety of yoga styles and movement practices. From traditional Hot 26/2 and breath-centered flows to strength-based Sculpt classes, mindful movement, and restorative practices, we believe there is value in exploring different ways to move and care for your body.
We don’t believe one practice has to be everything for everyone.
Some days you need to challenge yourself, build strength, and sweat. Other days you need to slow down, release tension, and simply breathe.
And some days, just showing up is enough.
Our teachers bring their own experience, education, and personalities to the practice, creating opportunities for students to learn, explore, and grow in different ways.
What connects it all is our commitment to providing a welcoming, knowledgeable, and supportive environment where every student feels they belong.
THE HEART OF AUTHENTIC YOGA
Authentic Yoga exists because of the people who walk through our doors.
The students who took a chance on something new. The people who invited a friend, encouraged a stranger, or showed up for someone having a hard day. The teachers who bring their knowledge, personalities, and genuine care into every class.
Over the years, we’ve watched friendships form, confidence grow, people discover strength they didn’t know they had, and our community continue to evolve.
That is what makes Authentic Yoga what it is today.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped build this community, and we’re excited for all the people we haven’t met yet.
Whether you’re looking for a challenging workout, a deeper connection to your practice, a place to slow down, or simply a community where you feel welcome, we hope you find something here that speaks to you.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be YOU.
Welcome to Authentic Yoga.
We have now organically grown to 3 studios, established training program for new teachers, and a retreat community. Authentic Yoga Retreats.
